The train ride from Montpellier to Paris was quick and comfortable. It was a TGV so in about 3 hours we were on the other side of the country. I had found an apartment for rent that was listed on craigslist that sounded too good to be true. View of the Eiffel Tower in one of the better areas of Paris for only 49 euros per night. The owner, Antoine also offered to pick us up from the train station at 1:30am since the metro wouldn't be working. A little hesitant of what we would encounter, I decided to book it since there really wouldn't be anything close to that price.
We arrived at the station and, sure enough, Antoine was waiting for us in the grey coat he said he would be wearing. We squeezed our massive bags (known to the French as "American luggage") into the tiny car and Antoine gave us some Paisian tidbits as he drove us to the apartment.
Once we got to the building, James and I wedges ourselves into the also tiny elevator - I'm certain we exceeded the weight limit by about 100 lbs - and ascended the six flights. Antoine walked up simply because he wouldn't have fit! I was extremely nervous about the place because you never know what you will find in Paris and I really wanted James to enjoy the city.
The door opened and my first thought was "Oh crap"! The place was tiny and was in desparate need of some organizing. Antoine left after showing us the ropes and I was waiting for James to say he hated it. But he didn't. In fact, the place was pretty clean once we took a closer look, it just had a lot of clutter. It did have a great view of the Eiffel Tower from the balcony so we decided to give it a chance.
